Council bars press and public from Assembly Rooms debate
MYSTERY still surrounds the sale of Boston’s Assembly Rooms tonight after the press and public were excluded from a discussion on the matter.
At an extraordinary meeting of the full Boston Borough Council tonight members voted to debate the issue behind closed doors, depite a number of opposition members voting against turfing us out.
The Standard was barred from speaking at the meeting and raised objections to being excluded through independent councillor Carol Taylor.
Labour councillor Paul Gleeson said: “I have very serious concerns about this report. It could have been written in such a way that the majority of issues concerning the people of Boston would have been able to be discussed.
“I am totally against this exemption (of press and public).”
The council has argued that a discussion of the sale in public will reveal exempt financial information.
