Plans to open the Assembly Rooms under its new guise as an entertainment venue have been put back more than a month, following delays.
New owner Matthew Clark had been planning to reopen the iconic building by Easter, but he told The Standard it would now be May before it was ready.
He would not reveal any further information about what the building would be used for when it was brought up to scratch, but confirmed once again that it would be ‘an entertainment venue’.
Mr Clark, who bought the building from Boston Borough Council in November, said: “We were originally looking at Easter, but it has become quite unrealistic . I would be very disappointed if we are not sorted by the May Bank Holiday.”
The delay has been caused by work to ensure the project is acceptable with English Heritage, as the building is Grade II listed, he said.
Work is now underway for the conversion of the building, and plans have been made to convert the toilets beneath the building into retail units.
“We are not looking at any major changes to the building. Any small changes will be inkeeping with its character,“ Mr Clark said.

When asked outright if this was his plan, he replied ‘never say never’ – and this air of mystery still seems to be in place. Mr Clark will admit that the building will be used as an entertainment venue, but will not say what form this will take. However, he told The Standard, he would reveal more information in the next few weeks.
