“If you love each other you can get through most things.”
That is the message from one happy couple who have reached diamond wedding anniversary.
Valerie and Cliff Worthington, of Church Road, Boston, reached the landmark on Boxing Day having got married at St Botolph’s Church on December 26, 1954.
They met when Valerie worked for Fisher Clarks and Cliff worked for Freiston Farm.
They used to travel to work together, with Cliff, now 81, picking her up.
In the end it was Valerie, now 80, who popped the question.
She said: “I was on to a good thing and I couldn’t let him go then could I?
“We were courting from the age of 15 to 20.”
Cliff and Valerie have had five children, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Valerie said: “I wouldn’t change any of my life for anything. I have been quite contented.”
And the secret to married life? “I think if you love one another you can get through most things,” said Valerie.
“Lots of people say ‘I love such and such’ but it doesn’t mean anything. Love needs to mean something.”
