Enterprise centre is now open for business
Friday, 10.20am - THERE'S an open door to business in Boston now the keys to the multi-million pound Boston Enterprise Centre have been handed over.
Boston Borough Council received the keys to the state-of-the-art facility in Endeavour Park, on the Boardsides, at a ceremony on Thursday.
It followed a 12-month build programme, costing 3.7 million – 755,000 of which came from Boston Borough Council.
Coun Gerry Clare, who accepted the keys from Lindum Construction Contractors, said: "The enterprise centre will be an excellent facility for our business community.
"It will encourage and support existing and new local businesses, which are an essential part of Boston's economy."
The centre has room for 45 office suites, ranging from 250sqft to 760sqft, as well as 76 car parking spaces, CCTV protection, and advanced broadband and WiFi capabilities.
At a meeting of the cabinet – the borough's decision-making committee – an organisation was chosen to manage and operate the centre.
Nottingham Enterprise – a not-for-profit organisation with around 150 years' experience – outbid Success Matrix and Lincolnshire Enterprise Solution to secure the tender.
Coun Peter Jordan spoke highly of the chosen firm on Wednesday. He said: "They specialise in what they call 'incubation'. This is where they take the egg of a business idea and make sure that egg turns into a healthy chick.
"They will bring people into Boston from not just the county, but hopefully nationally and internationally."
Under the proposed agreement with Nottingham Enterprise, Boston Borough Council will receive a cut of the organisation's annual turnover – between five and 15 per cent – as well a 50 per cent share of any profits.
More than a third of the funding for the project came from the European Regional Development Fund, which contributed 1.37 million. Other sources of funding included Lincolnshire Enterprise and Lincolnshire County Council.
