Family’s tribute to ‘happy’ student who died suddenly after suspected bout of meningitis
Craig White
The family of an aspiring young journalism student who died suddenly last week have paid tribute to his happy nature.
Craig White suffered from searing headaches, insomnia and nausea in the weeks leading up to his death, but his family said he put the symptoms down to the steroids he was taking for a long-standing medical condition.
The 21-year-old, of Hessle Drive, Boston, died last Wednesday at Pilgrim Hospital.
It is suspected that he may have died from meningitis but a post mortem was due to be held into his death yesterday (Tuesday).
He had earlier posted on social networking website Twitter saying he felt unwell.
Earlier this week, Craig’s family paid tribute to his ‘happy-go-lucky’ attitude and ability to make others smile.
Girlfriend Laurie Caumette said: “He was somebody who would always make people happy.
“I can’t even imagine him on an unhappy day – everyone would describe him with a smile on his face.
“I will miss his laugh most. I’ve got photos of his smile, but I have not got his laugh.”
His dad Shane added: “He was such a wonderful son.”
Brother Alex Ford said: “I shall miss my brother forever.”
Craig, who was an avid Manchester City fan and wrote a blog for the club, had been taking steroids for a number of weeks following a flare up of his chron’s disease – a condition which affected his digestion. He had returned to Boston from the University of Lincoln for routine treatment at Pilgrim Hospital when he was taken ill.
The student – a former Boston Grammar School pupil – was studying to become a sports journalist.
A university spokesman said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends. Craig was a well-known and much-loved student.
“His loss will be sorely felt.”
