An investigation is underway into an assault in North Sea Camp in which a female victim is said to have been left with a broken nose, officials have confirmed.
A police spokesman said a woman, working at the Freiston Shore open prison, was on her way back to her car after finishing work on January 14, when she was approached from behind, assaulted and pushed to the ground.
A prison service spokesman said: “Following an assault on a member of staff in an outside area of HMP North Sea Camp on January 14, the prison has put in place a number of measures to ensure the safety of all prison staff.
“We will not tolerate acts of violence against our staff and will always press for the most serious charges to be laid against perpetrators.”
Police have denied the assault included any sexual element, and said no one has so far been arrested.
The spokesman added that inquiries are ongoing.
