Flower power raises cash for Boston Stump
Wednesday, 1.15pm - MORE than £23,500 has been raised for the restoration of the Boston Stump in a special event to mark the church's 700th year.
In excess of 5,000 people from all over the country and abroad visited the church during its Flower Festival.
The Rev Robin Whitehead, the vicar of Boston, said: "This was a fantastic time for the church and the people of the town. I have never known it to look so beautiful and everybody who attended was very appreciative of what the church had achieved.
"This was a show that was of the highest international standard and the church thanks all who have spent many months designing and planning the event."
During the festival, the American Friends of Boston Stump helped to unveil a special plaque commemorating the 700th anniversary of the laying of its first foundation stone.
The British Consul General, New England, Phil Budden and his family also came over for the event.
Jean Stewart-Smith, chairman of the flower festival committee, said: "I also would like to thank all who have worked so hard to make this the most successful flower festival the church has ever put on. I would also like to thank my fellow committee members Jill Paul and Heather Shaw for the work that they have put in to it."
A DVD of the festival, priced at 10 including post and packaging, is available featuring the arrangements and is on sale from the Festival Office or the Stump Shop. It will also be available through the church's website in the near future.
