Funds still needed for church repairs

Sunday - REPAIRS in the region of £90,000 are due to begin at a village church, but several thousand more is needed in order to complete the work, church members say.

English Heritage has awarded a grant of about 64,000 towards the cost of repairing the roof and cupola of All Saints Church, in Holland Fen.

Members of the District Church Council (DCC) have secured funds from other grant-making bodies as well as public donations, but expect a shortfall in the region of 5,000 come completion date.

DCC member June Orford said: "We are excited about it as it's getting done, but we have also got to be cautious. We're all very much aware we have got to find this money - we can't be complacent."

The work is due to be finished by late February/early March - it starts in less than three weeks' time, Saturday, September 20.

The roof has been a pressing matter for the church for several years since it began leaking water into the pulpit.
