Get to know more about Boston
Thursday, 11am - FINDING activities to do this summer has just been made a lot easier…and in most cases they won't cost a penny.
Getting to Know Boston is preparing to launch with a detailed calendar of events happening in Boston and its surrounding villages from mid-July through to September.
More than 20 events are listed to keep all ages occupied throughout the summer months, with most of them being either free or representing value for money.
Events include the Stump's 700th anniversary celebrations, Boston United community days, holiday roadshows for children, rounders, raft races and Boston Steam and Vintage Festival.
"We know that the community runs events and this is about how we can better coordinate and publicise what they are trying to do," said Boston Borough Council's community cohesion and engagement officer Frank Hanson.
"It's about extending awareness to the people of Boston and visitors, and also about profiling it to people outside as much as the ones who are already here."
Getting to Know Boston is an idea from a delivery group, made up of organisations such as the borough council, Boston Mayflower, South Lincolnshire Community Voluntary Service, Lincolnshire Police, and the Citizens Advice Bureau, which identifies ways to bring the community together.
The information will be delivered in a leaflet to households across the borough and can also be picked up in a number of community venues.
The first event to take place will be St Barnabas's annual summer fair at the Centenary Methodist Church on Red Lion Street, Boston, on Saturday, July 11.
The traditional fair will run from 10am and will feature cakes, plants, a tombola, raffle, children's games and more.
