Grant is just the tonic for drinks entrepreneur

Wednesday, 3.45pm - BUSINESS is starting to taste a little bit sweeter for Kirton Holme drinks entrepreneur Claire Hall.

Claire is the brains behind alcoholic ice tea drink Percy's.

And this week she is toasting her own success after landing an innovation support grant, which means she can expand production.

The tasty tipple began almost five years ago when the 27-year-old was spending a dull day at work in London, wishing a hint of vodka could spruce up her fruit tea.

"It was a hobby that seemed to become an obsession," said Claire.

Many experimental batches later and the all-natural-ingredient brew was ready.

The only problem was production.

Claire has been making and bottling her Percy's drinks – named in honour of her father's middle name - at the University of Lincoln's Holbeach food and technology campus.

But her new grant – which is 50/50 match-funded, meaning she will have to foot half the costs herself – has allowed her to relocate to automated production in Nottingham.

Percy's comes in two flavours – exotic mango and lemon and lime – both with a hint of Icelandic vodka.
