Homes urged to sign up to save on energy bills

There is another chance to save on your energy bills by signing up to the Lincolnshire Energy Switch Scheme.

The scheme opens again tomorrow and has previously seen 4,700 homes collectively sign up to get a better deal from energy suppliers.

The scheme is organised by Boston Borough Council, Lincolnshire County Council, West Lindsey District Council, East Lindsey District Council, South Kesteven District Council, North Kesteven District Council, Lincoln City Council and Community Lincs administered by the UK’s leading collective switching expert, iChoosr Ltd.

In the most recent auction, held in June, the average saving per household to take up their offer was £234.

Households wanting to register can submit their details at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/switch, call 01529 301 990 (9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday) or visit Boston Borough Council’s Municipal Buildings offices in West Street.

Once households have registered their interest, the energy suppliers will be invited to compete with their best offers.

The scheme is free for households to join and there is no obligation to take up the winning supplier’s tariff offer.

All can register, whether you rent your home or own it, whether you are on dual fuel, electric only, pay monthly or quarterly or have a prepayment meter. And you don’t have to live in Lincolnshire. This scheme is open to all in the UK.

Coun Mike Gilbert, Boston Borough Council’s portfolio holder for housing, property and community, and himself a Lincolnshire Energy Switch Scheme switcher, said: “Collective switching schemes have been successful in saving households on their energy bills – I am now saving on mine. People want help to find a good deal on their energy bills and are comfortable seeking this help in a scheme promoted by their local council.

“Many who find the switching process baffling end up doing nothing and paying more than they need to.

“Collective switching offers a straightforward solution. The more people who register, the more interested the suppliers are in winning them as customers and so the better the deal they offer.

“People who register are offered a deal after the auction and they choose whether to take it or not. Yes or no. Simple, but you have to register to have a chance to take up the saving so register today and tell your friends, family and neighbours to register too.”
