Hunting for old trophy owners
Trophies handed in to Boston Borough Council
A search has been launched for the rightful owners of a number of old show trophies and pictures dating back as far as the 1940s.
A collection of items from the Kirton and Frampton Agricultural Show was handed in to Boston Borough Council after they were found in a Kirton loft when the owner of the house died – and the authority is now looking for the person or people who own them.
The items include a championship cup awarded at the Kirton and District Agricultural Show for the best pony. According to the engraved plate it was won by a Susan M.Barker, who swept to victory in 1955.
Another trophy is engraved with the words ‘Kirton and Frampton Agricultural Show and Sports’ and is the Herbert Clark Championship cup. It has a number of names inscribed on the name plate, the last of which is J. W. Hilton and Son, who won in each year from 1952 to 1955.
The smallest one is the Kirton and Frampton Agricultural Show and Sports Challenge Cup for School Relay Race – Senior Boys.
There are also two small shields displaying a horse, each marked with Kirton and Frampton Show 1953.
Along with the prizes are two large black and white photographs, which are mounted on card and include the words ‘presented with the compliments of the show committee’. Both are from the 1948 acgricultural show. One shows a man leading a horse with a card containing a miniature house. In the background there is a banner which says ‘Grow more food – buy less imports and save dollars.’
The other shows an elderly man in front of a horse and cart sign painted with the name Dennis and Sons Ltd. The word Hall, possibly part of an address, can also be seen on the cart.
