Jason Donovan to perform in Boston
Saturday, 9am - INTERNATIONAL entertainer Jason Donovan is coming to Boston to help raise cash for its only theatre.
The actor and singer, who became a household name for his role as Scott Robinson in Aussie soap Neighbours, is headlining a fundraiser in support of Blackfriars Theatre and Arts Centre.
The Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat star, who is currently appearing on London's West End in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, is even waiving his fee for the night.
Theatre director Mike Raymond told The Standard Jason was happy to lend his support.
"He said he would do this with pleasure," he said. "It's nice to get someone of that calibre at Blackfriars.
"I would think it safe to say it's the biggest name this theatre has seen in a long while."
The Especially For You singer, who also enjoyed a spot on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2006, will be joined by five other acts and a compere for the charity night, all of whom are waiving their fees.
And there will be further support from the talented youngsters of Blackfriars Youth Academy.
The theatre narrowly avoided permanent closure in 2007, but has been kept open thanks to the help of a large team of volunteers.
All the proceeds from the event - entitled Keep Theatre Live in Boston - will go towards keeping the theatre 'growing', more than just 'going', said Mr Raymond.
The event takes place on February 21, 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced at 25.
