Labour Party councillors in Boston will take to the streets tomorrow to protest about the introduction of the ‘bedroom tax’.
A national ‘day of action’ is taking place across the country tomorrow - with events planned in 16 cities.
Labour councillors in the town have said they do not want Boston to be ‘left out’ and plan to take to the streets themselves.
A statement on the Boston Labour group website said: “Boston Labour Councillors are outraged by these proposals and the effect it is likely to have on people in Boston.
“We urge local people to support us on the 16th. We will be distributing leaflets throughout the borough.
“It is time to tell this Tory coalition that we are not going to just quietly accept their discriminative bedroom tax.”
In this week’s Standard we revealed that the bedroom tax - a cut in housing benefit for people in social housing with ‘unused’ bedrooms - will affect 657 people in Boston, including 414 who are disabled.
MP Mark Simmonds has argued that the policy is the ‘right way forward’ to cure a shortage of social housing. He also vowed to take up the case of anyone who feels they have been treated unfairly as a result of the changes
