Voters' decision to take the UK out of the European Union has come as '˜no surprise' to leader of Lincolnshire County Council Martin Hill.

Councillor Hill has publicly supported the Vote Leave campaign, adding his signature this week to a letter signed by 40 politicians calling for Britain to leave the EU.

The letter stated that the county and the country would benefit from an ‘independent’ Britain, and would be able to address immigration and regain control of our laws and democracy.

Speaking to this newspaper this morning, Coun Hill said: “I’m very pleased with the result; I had publicly supported Leave, as have over 60 per cent of Lincolnshire voters.

Business will continue normally as we will not be leaving EU for at least two years and even then will still be trading with them and the rest of the world.

“I was not surprised about the clear majority in Lincolnshire wishing to leave. Outside the EU we will potentially have less red tape and instructions from Brussels and more opportunities from the rest of the world to help increase the county’s prosperity.”
