A man from Kirton has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a collision on the A1.

A 24-year-old male driver from Glenrothes, in Fife, died at Peterborough City Hospital following the collision between a blue Ford Focus and a blue Volkswagen Passat on the southbound carraigeway, near to the Fox Inn, north of the turn off to South Witham at 5pm on Saturday.

The driver of the Passat, a 30-year-old man from Kirton, was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries but discharged after treatment. He was then arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving before being released on police bail while further enquiries are made.

The road was closed while investigations were carried out but reopened at around 11.40pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses and ask anyone with details to contact the force via the collision witness hotline on 01522 558855 or by calling the non emergency 101 number.
