Money for Haiti
Friday, 5pm - HAITI is getting another boost towards its reconstruction effort from the Lincolnshire Co-operative.
The society has agreed a 10,000 donation towards the Haiti reconstruction effort on behalf of its 180,000 members.
Co-ops across the country are making contributions through Co-operatives UK as part of a wider international appeal led by the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA).
The money collected by the ICA Reconstruction Fund will go towards rebuilding and creating co-operatives in Haiti.
Lincolnshire Co-operative's president Margaret Tranter said: "Our members and staff have been deeply moved by the terrible events which have unfolded in Haiti.
"The board of directors felt it appropriate to make this donation towards the reconstruction effort.
"We hope our donation will help the people of Haiti look towards a brighter future."
Members of the worldwide co-operative have been taking action as part of the Haiti relief effort, examples include: The National Co-operative Council of the Dominican Republic co-ordinating the collection of in-kind emergency relief items including food and clothing, and members of the Bangladesh National Co-operative Union helping collect emergency medical supplies from co-operators and pharmaceutical producers to send to Haiti.
