Official opening for new homeless hostel

Saturday - A NEW homeless hostel has been officially declared open and local people have been invited to have a look around.

Boston Mayflower's hostel in North Street for single homeless people already houses some residents and has been in demand over the past few weeks.

Deborah Tempest, Boston Mayflower's lettings manager said: "We feel the opening event held at Mayflower House went extremely well.

"Many different local organisations and agencies attended - and many people said they were very impressed with both the event and the Mayflower House homeless hostel.

"We would like to thank all those who attended, as they helped make the day a very special one."

The hostel is at the same address as the former Centrepoint Outreach homeless hostel.

Mayflower received funding for the project from Lincolnshire County Council's Supporting People scheme.

The hostel features accommodation and support, including eight fully furnished rooms for single homeless people and two 'move-on flats' providing a stepping stone to fully-fledged tenancy.

It also provides its residents with assistance in life skills, such as cooking, careers, education and budgeting - and help in securing permanent self-contained accommodation in the future.

Everyday, people become homeless for many reasons including family breakdown, loss of employment, debt or ill-health.

Tenants are referred to the hostel through numerous agencies, primarily Boston Borough Council, and can stay for up to two years.

Since it was founded 10 years ago Boston Mayflower has built a reputation for providing housing and giving support to vulnerable people.
