An injured dog was reunited with its owner thanks to a police officer, member of the public and an animal alert service.

Officers on patrol on the A17 at Main Road, Swineshead, on Saturday came across an injured terrier who had been hit by a car.

The dog was transported to a local vet for treatment. In the meantime the officer sent out a message on Lincs Alert and the appeal was seen on the website missingdogs.co.uk by a member of the public who help to reunite the owners.

A police spokesman said: “Lincolnshire Alert is a means by which we can reach local people with appeals or information. This is one unusual example of how the system can raise awareness of an incident and in this case, reunite an injured dog with its owner.”

Lincs Alert supports Neighbourhood Watch, Farm and Country Watch and Horse watch. To sign up visit www.lincolnshirealert.co.uk
