Children affected by the floods in December were given a treat just before Christmas when a special party was held for them.
The Get Boston Back On ItsFeet group organised the event at the Indus Valley Suites, on John Adams Way in Boston, where about 30 children and their families attended.
The day included facepainting, music, and a visit from some owls the character Lightning McQueen from the film Cars and Santa.
Donated presents were also dished out.
Organiser Sarah Whelan said: “The day went really, really well and we had lots of families turn up. The children all had a fantastic day and we got a lot of thank yous sent to us afterwards.”
The children were each given a bag full of presents – one including a PlayStation and a computer – at random, as well as a cuddly toy and a cupcake made by a lady who was flooded herself.
Sarah said: “The children were overwhelmed and the parents were gobsmacked at people’s generosity. A lot of them had walked to the party and had to get a taxi back home!”
The catering for the event was organised by Karen McGarry and a number of volunteers also turned up to help out on the day.
Any food that was left was also sent to the Salvation Army.
The group now hopes to organise more events in the future and has formed a committee to decide where help is needed.
Sarah said she is hoping to work with a community artist to get the children to create a ‘large scale’ artwork through which they can remember what happened.
