A food supplier from Boston has been forced to recall a product from distribution following concerns it may contain horsemeat.
Pilgrim Foods Ltd, on Marsh Lane has taken ten cases of cottage pies out of circulation on advice from the Food Standards Agency while it awaits the results of testing.
A spokesman for the company stressed it had been done as a precautionary measure.
She added: “This is one single product, and there are lots of products. It is one product we have withdrawn, and there is nothing to prove there is an issue with the product.”
It has been done in connection with the discovery of horsemeat in meals provided to a schools in Lancashire.
About 250 products have been sent off for testing in light of the horsemeat scandal. The results are still pending on the vast majority of these, but the 75 which have been returned have shown negative readings for the meat.
