POST OFFICE: Bosses insist Boston WH Smith move was ‘not a done deal’

News.

News.

Post Office bosses have denied the WH Smith move was a ‘done deal’ all along.

A spokesman said: “We did of course run a six week public consultation prior to making any decision on the move of Boston Crown Post Office to WH Smith. It is certainly not the case that any decisions were made before the consultation had ended.
“We made sure consumer interests were represented by organising a customer forum for people to come forward and give us their views and we also shared the responses we received with Consumer Futures. We believe the new location of the Post Office is the best way to ensure the long term viability of Boston Crown Post Office. Customers will be able to access the same wide range of services and benefit from extended opening hours and improved accessibility.”
Post Office Ltd previously announced plans to convert the first and second floor of the building into 10 one and two bedroom flats. It is not yet clear what will happen to the bit used as the post office.
The spoksman added: “We recognise that there is concern for the historical status of the building which currently houses Boston Crown Post Office. We have a responsibility to ensure we get the best return from our property holdings, which is why we will market the property for sale or to let once the move takes place. Post Office will of course ensure that English Heritage guidelines are fully considered as part of this process, and any future purchaser would be bound by the conditions regarding the listing on the building.”
