Proposals made to cut council tax benefit meant thousands of people in Boston could soon be struggling with higher bills.

The proposals had gone through scrutiny and were passed at a Cabinet meeting.

The changes meant those who did not previously have to pay anything could have to foot a quarter of their council tax bill - at the time £360 a year for a band D property.

○ The Christmas lights this year were switched on by soap stars Fiona Wade and Bhasker Patel (see above).

The Emmerdale pair pressed the button as part of a weekend-long festive bonanza which included live performances and a craft market.

○ The town won a £1m lotter windfall which was to be earmarked for ‘forgotten’ parts of the country and people were being asked where to spend it.

The money could be spend on anything people wanted from setting up businesses that boosted the community, to tackling unemployment, fighting anti-social behaviour or funding activities and facilities not already on offer.

○ The county council U-turned on controversial plans to install traffic-calming chicanes along a busy stretch of road.

Lincolnshire County Council reneged on the plans to put 10 islands along Eastwood Road, in Fishtoft, following a wave of objections.

They also apologised for wrongly saying the parish and borough councils were in favour of the plans.
