Calls for a ban on drinking in the street were increasing – but councillors were opting to wait for Government reforms to tackle the issue.

The county’s police and crime commissioner candidates backed outright bans and a Standard Facebook found a vast majority backed the idea.

However, councillors voted not to extend orders currently in place due to next April’s proposed national reforms.

○ Pilgrim Hospital again came under fire from the Care Quality Commission, this time for the way it handled medicines.

However, hospital bosses maintained ‘significant improvements’ had been made to the service.

○ The second annual Dragonboat Festival was held at Witham Way Country Park.

The event raised about £10,000 for charity and was won by SLS Scaffolding. They also won a free meal at the Hong Kong Restaurant for being the best dressed (see above).

○ Angry relatives complaining about the state of their families’ graves were told the council would give them a brush to sweep them themselves.

A post on The Standard’s Facebook page sparked a number of angry comments regarding the Robin Hoods Walk facilities.

○ We revealed councillors’ attendance records – the ones with the worst records included David Owens and Aaron Spencer, Helen Staples .

Some of the worst offenders said there was little point in going to meetings as little could be done to change policies.
