Rocky road cycle raises charity cash

Sunday - A FITNESS fanatic raised £3,200 for Marie Curie Cancer Care recently when she cycled 250 miles across the Canadian Rockies.

Liisa Chadburn, who is the fitness instructor at Boston Borough Council, completed the ride in just five days.

She said: "It was just fantastic. It's really hard to describe, it was amazing, hard work though."

Liisa, 35, took part in the challenging ride from Calgary over the Rockies to Jasper with a team of 26 others.

She said: "The people I was riding with all had their own reasons for being there. That's what kept us going.

"If you thought you needed to get off the bike and walk you just thought of your reason. Everyone pushed each other along."

Liisa started raising money for cancer charities after she lost her father to the disease when she was just 17-years-old.

She said: "I want to raise money and awareness for the charities. I wouldn't mind doing another cycle challenge for Marie Curie."

In total the group, who all had their own stories to tell, managed to raise a fantastic 105,000.

Liisa, who works at Creations health club at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex, said: "I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who helped and supported me throughout the Rockies challenge. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
