Sheep decapitated by vandals

The sheep, on the centre of Bargate roundabout, forms part of an installation which features the sillhouettes of a farmer and his Lincolnshire Longwool Sheep, which was paid for by the late Garth Isaac as part of the town’s Boston-in-Bloom 2015 bid.

A council spokesman confirmed the vandalism to The Standard.

However, the spokesman added that thankfully the silhouettes formed templates for more permanent steel structures, and had already been used to make their replacements which are due to be installed in the near future.

Mr Isaac, who died in February, paid for the initiative after being inspired by a similar structure of horses and ponies in Horncastle and a water colour painting showing sheep grazing in the area before it was the busy junction of John Adams Way, Spilsby Road, Horncastle Road and Wide Bargate.

His creative team had modelled the sheep on the Longwools kept at HM Prison North Sea Camp.

The current wooden templates will be replaced with more durable cut-outs in 5/8ths of an inch thick steel plate.

Graphic designer Jocelyn Lawman completed the designs and Tim Sergeant did the cutting out.
