Shoppers in Boston will be taking part in a world record attempt this Saturday to blow up as many balloons as possible in 60 seconds.
It’s all part of Pescod Square’s 10th birthday celebrations.
The event has been organised by marketing firm Flying Saucer and balloons were chosen to tie in with the birthday theme. The current record of the most balloons blown up by a team in one minute is 500.
There will be two ‘practice’ attempts - one at midday and one at 12.30pm before the real record attempt gets under way at 1pm.
Each participant will have 10 balloons each to start with and they don’t have to worry about tying them as each balloon has a stop valve which prevents air from releasing.
Also on the day will be various characters from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, entertaining and enthralling shoppers with a comic mix of ‘merriment, mayhem and mirth’.
Andy Pottle, Pescod Square centre manager, said: “This will be a great community event and we are very excited to celebrate our 10th anniversary. I have been training and I’m prepared to inflate the last balloon if needed to get us into the record books.”
Money will also be raised on the day for the Butterfly Hospice, which is Pescod Square’s nominated charity this year.
