Shot cat is recovering well thanks to donation

A CAT shot in an air rifle attack in Mareham le Fen has been helped onto the road of recovery with a gift from an anonymous well-wisher.

Last month, The Standard told how 18-month-old tabby Winston had to have a leg amputated after a pellet was shot through his knee when he was out playing near his Watery Lane home.

Since then, owner Debbie Murphy has received a number of calls, as well as the anonymous get well parcel.

The parcel contained a bag of cat treats and a get well soon card from Oliver, a four-and-a-half-year-old tabby.

The card said Oliver was ‘sorry and shocked’ to hear what had happened and hoped the treats would make Winston feel better.

“It was so nice, we were touched,” said Mrs Murphy.

“He goes wild for the treats and is doing brilliantly with three legs. He has been coping very well and can even walk along the edge of the fence.

“The only things he can’t do are catch animals and scratch his ear on that side.”

She added: “It was nice that people have given such support. We’ve had so many calls and enquiries about him.”

Winston’s attacker has not yet been caught and little is known about what happened.

l Anyone with information about the attack should call Lincolnshire Police on 01522 532222 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
