Tom Baxter paid tribute to his Boston Cricket Club teammates after scooping the top two titles at the Boston Standard Sports Awards.

“Without them I wouldn’t be here. That’s the important thing,” Baxter told the audience at a packed Assembly Rooms.

The cricket club captain won the public vote to be named the Chestnut Homes Sports Personality of the Year for they way he has blooded in a number of the town’s youngsters, giving them their first taste of first XI action at the Mayflower.

Baxter’s work at the club also won him the nod from event headline sponsors The Waterfront, who named him the Overall Achiever, an award chosen from all the evening’s category winners.

Following Boston’s relegation from the Lincs ECB Premier in 2012, Baxter was left to rebuild a team after a number of players moved on.

But he believes that putting his faith in youngsters will pay off in the long term.

“The youth side is probably the strongest part of the club. The average age is 20-21,” Baxter continued.

Baxter narrowly won the Sports Personality Award despite tough competition from cage fighter Matt Hallam.

The mixed martial artist still has plenty to be proud of after celebrating a breakthrough year where he fulfilled his ambition of fighting under the BAMMA promotions banner.
