The Boston Standard has been ‘Highly Commended’ in the News Website of the Year category at the Midlands Media Awards.

The awards were handed out at a special ceremony at Villa Park, home of Aston Villa Football Club, last night (Thursday).

The Standard was up against stiff competition, with the Birmingham Mail crowned winners. Its submission included a live blog from a public meeting which attracted more than one million page views.

Also shortlisted were BBC Online East Midlands, BBC Online West Midlands, ITV News Central and The Lincolnite.

Boston Standard editor Stephen Stray said: “We were delighted to be shortlisted, so to come away with a Highly Commended is brilliant.

“The calibre of entrants was outstanding and I would like to congratulate everyone who was there on the night.”

He added: “I would like to thank my amazing team in Boston who work tirelessly, both on the internet and the print edition. And also, a massive ‘thank you’ goes to all of our readers who continue to support our efforts.”

The awards are run by the Birmingham Press Club.
