Support group launched at teddy bears' picnic

Tuesday - PARENTS of children receiving special care at Pilgrim Hospital are being invited to join a new support group.

A teddy bears' picnic, featuring a fire engine, launched the initiative at the hospital on Thursday.

The event featured advice and support from experts in special care for babies, demonstrations from local groups and activities, plus a raffle and tombola to raise funds towards future group sessions.

Staff nurses Hayley Gatens and Kim Silvester are behind the initiative.

Hayley said: "This is a great opportunity for families to meet up with others who have shared similar experiences, whilst having fun."

"Hopefully we will have a great response from parents wishing to partake and become involved in the group, to improve services for future families," added Kim.

Meetings are to be held at the Sure Start Centre, Norfolk Lodge, Norfolk Street, on the first Friday of the month from October.
