A STAR of motoring television parked up at a Boston pub to the awe of staff inside.

James May, who stars alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond in BBC’s Top Gear while also front other TV shows, stopped off at the Mill, on Spilsby Road.

Mill manager Becci Reeson said staff didn’t pester James, also known on the show as Captain Slow for his steady driving style, but did get a picture and autograph when he had finished.

She said: “He was really, really, down to Earth and polite.

“He wasn’t bothered when we asked for a photograph and autograph, which we got him to do on a menu.

“He said the evening was lovely and thanked us all.”

James arrived for the meal with a few others in a big white van.

He had the chateau briand and some glasses of wine.

Staff were unsure what he was doing in the county, however one of the presenter’s recent tweets reads: “I have to ride in the crew van this afternoon so I’m going to the pub to dull my nerves.”
