Town schools facing shake-up

Friday, July 7: 5.15pm - SINGLE-sex education could come to an end in Boston in two years' time.

Boston Grammar and Boston High schools could merge, eventually onto a single site, under plans being considered by the schools' governing bodies.

A statement issued today (Friday) said the 'significant impact of demographic changes in Boston and falling rolls in primary schools' presented challenges to the current system.

Governors will now carry out a feasibility study into merging the schools into a single mixed grammar from September 2008 with an admission limit of 120 to 150 pupils.

It would initially operate from both the schools' present sites in Spilsby Road and South End but could run from a single site from 2010.

An independent study will be commissioned to determine which of the present sites would be best for the new school.
