UPDATE: Police say the man spotted at the top of Boston Stump this afternoon is now down and ‘safe and well’.

Police say they were called to St Botolph’s Church at about 2.45pm in response to a report of concern for a man at the top of the tower.

Trained police negotiators attended the scene and the area surrounding The Stump was cordoned off.

A spokesman said: “The 32 year-old local man is now safe and well and in the care of the appropriate agency.

“Members of the public are thanked for their patience whilst the cordons were in place.”

St Botolph’s Bridge has now re-opened to pedestrians.

4pm: Police are in the process of talking to a man seen behaving erratically on the viewing platform at the top of Boston Stump.

The man was spotted at the top of St Botolph’s Church at about 3pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

He climbed onto the barriers with his arms outstretched, prompting fears that he may jump.

His actions attracted a small crowd of people on the new St Botolph’s Bridge but the structure has now been closed off to pedestrians by police while officers attempt to talk the man down.
