UPDATE WEDNESDAY 3.45PM: Highways team called out to fix pothole in Donington

The pothole was reported to police at about 8.20am and it was coned off ready for a Lincolnshire County Highways team to attend to repairs which were completed by about 3pm.

WEDNESDAY 10AM: Dangerous pothole on Donington road

A deep and dangerous pothole has opened up on a road near Donington today and motorists are being advised to “approach with caution”.

The pothole (pictured) opened up in North Drove, Quadring Fen, near the A52 where police are currently at the scene.

Lincolnshire County Council highways have been alerted and are on their way to the scene.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The incident was phoned in to us at 8.20am and this appears to be the first report about it to us.

“It may be that the recent deluge of rain has made it worse and an officer is on scene, having coned off that part of the road, with highways also attending as an emergency.”

It comes just two months after the council claimed that it had mended more potholes last yeat than ever before and then vowed to provide an even better service this year, despite severe financial cuts.

Council figures showed that more than 100,000 potholes were repaired in 2015 and over 380 miles of resurfacing work was carried out, both being records for Lincolnshire.
