VIDEO: Conservatives win by-election
Friday, 12pm - THE party that promised Boston a bypass has failed the first test of its enduring popularity.
The Boston Bypass Independents have lost their representative in the Coastal ward, following a by-election on Thursday.
Conservative candidate Raymond Singleton-McGuire won the ward by 38 votes from Boston Bypass Independents candidate Dr David Durrant, 344 to 306.
Mr Singleton-McGuire was among the councillors ousted by the Bypass Independents in last year's election.
He said: "I'm ready to go back to work."
The by-election was called due to the resignation of Boston Bypass Independents member Neil McGregor, following a drink-drive conviction.
The Liberal Democratic candidate, and also a former Boston Borough Councillor, Ossy Snell received 213 votes.
David Owens, for BNP, took 119 votes, Felicity Ransome, for UKIP, 88 votes, and Pam Imlah, for Labour, 44 votes.
There were four rejected papers, and the turnout was 37.3 per cent.
