Boston MP Mark Simmonds said he will press the authorities to speed up plans for a tidal barrier to protect the town from flooding – after being told that it would have stopped the devastation suffered on Thursday night.

Mr Simmonds spoke to The Standard yesterday while visiting the traders in Church Street affected by the flood damage.

He also called on insurance companies to act swiftly to help get homes and businesses back up and running as quickly as possible.
