VIDEO: Three friends’ dream ends in £53k boost for village play area

A petition organised by three young friends in Leverton has led to £53,000 of new play equipment being installed in the village.

More than 120 people signed a petition to Leverton Parish Council calling for better play equipment to be put on the field, after the girls, from Lacey’s Lane, said they were sick of travelling out of the village for ‘exciting’ play equipment.

And this week, their dreams came true, as many youngsters attended an official opening on Monday to road test the new equipment.

Council chairman Jane Moore said: “The children raised the petition all on their own, without any adult supervision. The parish council was immediately convinced it had to do something.”

The new items include a slide, a nest swing, a climbing frame and a stellanova roundabout. These have been added to the existing swings and the trim trail.

The items were chosen following a consulatation with children in the village, where they said what they would like to see put in place.

Two multi-purpose games areas have also been put in place.

The equipment was installed by Kompan Ltd, and seats and picnic benches have also been put in place, so the area can now be enjoyed by people of all ages in the village.

Leverton Parish Council chairman Coun Jane Moore has thanked funding partners. They were: WREN, the Norfolk Foundation, Leverton Poor Lands Trust, Leverton Leisure Centre and Coun Peter Bedford, from the county’s Big Society fund.
