VIDEO: Sun shines on the Seabank
Wednesday, 11.30am - TEMPERATURES soared and wills were tested in the 31st Seabank Marathon.
Hundreds of fundraisers were walking, running, and hobbling on sunshine between Boston and Skegness' beachfront in punishing conditions on Sunday.
Wet weather earlier in the week gave way to blistering sunshine on the day of the event, but left runners contending with muddy surfaces and grass up to 3ft high.
Paul Bryars, from organisers Peter Paine Sports Centre, said: "A lot of the course had been cleared but there were certainly some areas that had not been, but we do rely on the generosity of the farmers to help us out that way."
He continued: "The weather was a bit hot. We could have done with it being a bit cooler, but then the winning time is an excellent time in those conditions."
First across the finish line in a time of three hours and three minutes was Simon Philip Gregory, of Skegness.
Dave Tilley, last year's runner-up, took second place again, and was Boston's first runner home in a time on three hours and eight minutes.
The first woman was Sleaford's Alexandra Hetherington, who finished 10th in a time of three hours and 53 minutes.
In all, 408 finished from the 448 starters – slightly up from last year's 440. Last across the line, after 10 hours and 17 minutes, was Matthew Crutchley, of 3 Company Lincs Army Cadet Force, in a time of 10 hours and 17 minutes.
Half of the money raised will be split evenly between the Peter Paine Sports Centre and Macmillan Cancer Care, while the other half will go to a charity or worthy organisation of the runner's choice.
