Mary Wright elected as Boston Mayor

A NEWLY re-elected Boston councillor has completed a hat-trick of council roles after becoming mayor last night (Monday).

Coun Mary Wright, who led the council in 2006, was deputy Mayoress in 1990/91 and Mayoress to Coun Maureen Dennis in 2009/10, became Boston’s 477th Mayor at the official ceremony.

She will be supported by Mayoress Sue Donaldson, her daughter, Deputy Mayor Coun Maureen Dennis and Deputy Mayoress Marilyn Cobb, Mary’s niece.

There were no objections to her nomination, however, Coun Paul Goodale, while supporting Coun Wright, did declare his disappointment that the system of electing mayors had not returned to being the longest serving member of the elected council.
