‘Massive’ fly tip of 50 corrugated asbestos sheets in Old Leake is ‘biggest’ council’s ever had

About 50 corrugated asbestos sheets have been found spilling into a dyke in Old Leake, sparking an appeal for information by the council.

A Boston Borough Council spokesman confirmed the authority was seeking information about the ‘massive dump’ on a bridle way at Market Lane.

The spokesman said ‘the clean-up costs will be substantial’ and estimated it will run into the thousands.

They said: “We have to call in a specialist firm. Their operators will wear special protective suits and masks.

“It’s the biggest asbestos tip we’ve ever had. It’s not just the cost of removal but the correct onward disposal which costs so much because of the extremely hazardous nature of the product.

“It looks as if this may have come from a commercial building – be pleased to hear from anyone who knows where one has been taken down.”

The tip was originally reported to the council on October 17.
