PETER Derrick Popple (Pete), of Wyberton, has died in Pilgrim Hospital following a long illness.
He was 82.
Born in Wyberton Low Road, he lived within two miles of the area all his life.
A married man, he is survived by wife Doreen, daughter Kim, son Kenneth and grandchildren Sam and Emma.
Mr Popple had three older brothers and after the war, they returned to their favourite sport of cycling. He joined them as a 17-year-old and was a dedicated cyclist all his life. He was a member of Boston Wheelers.
Mr Popple worked for several years at Howard Tenens and finally as a security guard at a local bank.
He enjoyed gardening, DIY and going on holidays.
His funeral took place at St Thomas’ Church and was followed by cremation.
Hs ashes will be buried at a later date in St Thomas’ Churchyard.
The service was officiated by the Rev Jones.
Chief family mourners were: Doreen Popple (wife), Ken Popple (son), Kim Thompson (daughter), Sam and Emma Thompson (grandchildren), Derek Thompson (son-in-law), Jean Cater (cousin), Teresa Popple (sister-in-law), Pat and Rodger Budge (niece and husband), Wayne and Alison Cox (nephew and wife), Roy and Audrey Cox (brother-in-law and wife) and Debbie Pickering (niece).
Unable to attend: Mr and Mrs Ian Popple and Mr and Mrs Ken Cox (nephews and wives).
