A SUPERMARKET worker from Boston is limbering up for the experience of a lifetime, when she takes on a volunteer role in the London Paralympic Games.

Nancy Hearley, who works in the George clothing department at the town’s Asda store, said she ‘jumped at the chance’ to be a volunteer when the opportunity came up last year – and now she is getting ready to take on the role at the end of the summer.

The 61-year-old, who originally comes from Boston, Massachusetts, and now of Holland Fen, will travel to London for the Games.

Nancy said: “At my age you don’t get a lot of chances for an adventure so when the opportunity came up to apply as a London 2012 Olympic Games volunteer I jumped at the chance. I submitted my online application in December 2011 and was quite prepared to be disappointed when I had heard nothing for a good eight months. Then, amazingly, came an invitation to an interview at Warwick University in Coventry. Another long wait followed, but the reward at the end was an offer to be a Gamesmaker for the Event Services Team at the Paralympic Games.

“I am very proud to have been selected for this honour.”

She has now completed her role-specific training and is looking forward to the Games themselves, which run from August 29 to September 9.
