Members of the Labour party in Boston have said they are ‘delighted’ at the election of Jeremy Corbyn as the party’s national leader today (Saturday).

In an open letter to the press Boston Borough Council’s labour party leader Coun Paul Gleeson and former party leader and town mayor Paul Kenny said: “He, more than any of the other candidates, managed to energise and galvanise people into joining Labour and voting for him and his values and beliefs.

“It is now time to build a Labour Party that fights for everybody who lives in our country; to have a leader who speaks up when questions need to be asked; who challenges savage cuts to public services; who is keen that we get all of our businesses to pay taxes to make sure there is equality for all. “We now have a Labour Party which is led by its members working for the many and not the few.”

Mr Corbyn was earlier announced as the party’s new leader with 59.5 per cent of the vote.
