Boston’s new Mayor has spoken of his amazement and privilege at being chosen for the honour.

Coun Stephen Woodliffe told guests at the annual meeting of Boston Borough Council on Monday: “I am absolutely amazed that I have been chosen to be Mayor of this wonderful borough of ours.

“When I moved here 30 years ago I never expected to be Mayor of Boston.”

Coun Woodliffe is Boston’s 482nd Mayor. Wife Catharine will be Mayoress.

Coun Maureen Dennis and former councillor Helen Staples have taken the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress roles.

Coun Woodliffe has chosen Boston Foodbank and Blackfriars Theatre and Arts Centre as his charities for the year.
