LETTER: Councillor’s arrogance over Market Place is shocking

I was taken aback with the arrogance of borough councillor Derek Richmond and his comments on knowing the highway code.

It would seem that he does not know it or that he does not drive.
In the highway code under parking it clearly states ‘Use off-street parking areas, or bays marked out with white lines on the road as parking places wherever possible if you have to stop on the road side’.
The council has already stated that the Market Place is on road parking. Councillor Richmond’s arrogance is only exceeded by his ignorance.
As to the Market Place, the money spent would have been better used to clean up the sewer that runs from Sluice Bridge to the South Forty Foot through the centre of town.
If the council want to bring people into the town they should take a leaf out of the books of places like Poole, Fleetwood, Whitby, Portsmouth and other towns that have cleaned up their water front areas.
