The RWE nPower plan is now taking shape to route the power cable from the Triton Knoll wind farm off the east coast to a new substation complex at Bicker Fen.

Whilst there will be many objections it could be an opportunity for this substantial development to bring big financial benefit to the borough.

A local example of how this is possible relates to the power station development at Sutton Bridge.

Here a councillor, after protracted negotiations, agreed a huge a package of benefits.

In my view Peter Bedford and his Conservative team of councillors should expect to negotiate at least £1m.

I hope they are up to the challenge.

It would be a wonderful legacy for their administration.

Coun Richard Austin

Independent councillor
