New Year message: MP reflects on ‘exciting’ 2012

MP Mark Simmonds

MP Mark Simmonds

Boston and Skegness MP Mark Simmonds reflects on an ‘exciting’ 2012, a year in which he was promoted to a position in the coalition government...

2012 has undoubtedly been an exciting year for the UK. The Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic and Paralympic Games have allowed Britain to showcase itself to the world.

We have proven as a country that we are more than capable of competing with other foreign powers and are willing to fight for the best deal for Britain.

There is still a lot of hard work to be done and difficult decisions to be made, but our economy is improving. In our first two years in Government the Coalition has started to tackle the deficit left by the previous Labour Government, and the private sector has created more than a million new jobs.

It has been a good year for me as a Member of Parliament. With my promotion to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, I can now ensure that my constituents’ interests are represented at the heart of Government. Constantly around the world I hear of the envy other countries have for our agricultural expertise and skills and I am proud to represent a constituency that excels in this area.

I would like to thank those who worked in our hospitals and emergency services over Christmas to ensure we all had a safe and happy festive season with our family and friends.

I would also like to thank those people who work tirelessly in our communities throughout the year. Your contributions are invaluable.

I wish all my constituents a very happy New Year.

Mark Simmonds

MP for Boston and Skegness
