Pianist in Good Guys orchestra

A BOSTON-based piano player will be performing his first gig with a new professional swing band in Peterborough this weekend.

Mark Ferguson, who began playing piano at the age of eight, has joined the Good Guys Orchestra, which was formed earlier this year and has its first major concert at the Key Theatre, on Saturday, at 7.30pm.

Mark was approached by band leader Guy Garret when he first started putting the 18 piece band together.

He said: “This is by far the best band I have ever been associated with. The guys in it are all top musicians and the sound is amazing.”

As a youth, Mark and his duet partner were regional champions in the Rotary Young Musician Competition and he became a dedicated member of the Boston Youth Jazz Orchestra.

He went on to study music at the University of East Anglia and now earns his living as a player and teacher – and is currently the piano mentor for the Jazz and Rock Academy of Lincolnshire.

Tickets to the show cost £15.
