A young boy’s poem about his father, a soldier, has captured the hearts of more than 230 friends and family members on Facebook.

Harry Cuthbert, eight, wrote the poem, My Daddy is a Soldier, about his dad Frazer Cuthbert who is serving in the armed forces, as part of his homework assignment for Boston West Academy.

Mum Rebecca Luanne Nuttell Cuthbert said: “He came home and said he wanted to write his about his dad.”

She said she thought it was brilliant and shared it on Facebook with her friends, where it attracted more than 230 likes and 100 comments.

Dad Frazer, from the Boston area, has been in the army for 24 years – including two tours in Iraq – and is due to leave the forces soon.

My Daddy is a Soldier by Harry Cuthbert

My daddy is a soldier,

He’s often gone away,

To some far off country,

Where he has to stay.

I really miss my daddy,

And I’m not sure what he does,

Except helps other people,

Who need him very much.

At night when I say my prayers,

I ask to keep daddy safe,

So that he can come home to us,

And we see his smiling face.

My daddy is a soldier,

He’s always away,

And I am very proud of him,

Each and every day.

Come home to us daddy,

When your job is done,

I know these people need you,

But us five need you too.
